After winning their last seven games, the Miami Dolphins were defeated 34-3 by the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium on Sunday.
Miami’s offense simply couldn’t get anything going throughout the game. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had a tough time throwing accurately and holding onto the ball with the rainy conditions. He finished the day completing just 47.4% of his attempts for 205 yards and an interception. He also had three fumbles.
The weather can’t be used as an excuse in this game. This is the NFL, and it tends to rain from time to time.
Miami was actually successful when they attempted to run the ball. The trio of Duke Johnson, Myles Gaskin, and Phillip Lindsay combined for 73 yards on 14 carries. However, the Dolphins stayed away from the run game until the game was over for some reason.
On the defensive side, the Dolphins could not stop D’Onta Foreman from running all over them. He carried the ball 26 times for 132 yards (5.1 yards per carry) and a touchdown. Miami made him look like Derrick Henry, as he was breaking tackles nearly every time he touched the ball.
Ryan Tannehill completed his revenge game, as he seemed to be mostly unaffected by the rain, completing 13-of-18 attempts for 120 yards and two touchdowns.
This game essentially ended the Dolphins’ postseason hopes, meaning they will likely miss the playoffs for the fifth year in a row. Three years into the Brian Flores era, they haven’t put it all together.
