With the No. 58 pick in the 2023 draft, the Dallas Cowboys selected another Michigan product in tight end Luke Schoonmaker. There was no secret the Cowboys were hunting a tight end and as the round began it seemed like the rest of the league were hunting them as well.
Three tight ends came off the board in the first 10 picks of the round; Sam LaPorta, Michael Mayer, and Luke Musgrave. However, the Cowboys were undaunted and grabbed Schoonmaker, an ascending pass catcher with the route running athleticism to win down the field as a seam stretcher or underneath versus man or zone coverage. He is also a really effective in-line blocker.
He put up impressive testing numbers running a 4.63 forty, 1.59 10-yard split, 33.5” Vertical Jump, 10’7” Broad Jump, 4.27 20-yard shuttle.
