There have been rumors and suggestions this offseason that running back Nick Chubb could be about to play his final season with the Cleveland Browns as another running back could join the roster via the 2023 NFL Draft. The Pro Bowl running back will be 29 in 2024 with a cap hit of $16.2 million with an offense focusing more on the passing game under Deshaun Watson.
Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot, however, believes as long as Chubb doesn’t show a significant decline like Kareem Hunt did in 2022, he will be back in Cleveland for the 2024 season.
“If he shows any signs of slowing down this season, the Browns could always consider a restructure for 2024, given that Chubb’s dead cap charge that year is only $4 million. By all accounts, he’ll remain a focal point of the offense this season even in the retooled scheme. If he stays healthy and is not on the decline heading into 2024, he’ll be here, but possibly at a lower cap charge.”
Chubb hasn’t shown any signs of decline so far and with a bigger focus on throwing the ball, he may have a lighter load leading to a longer career.
