When the New York Giants roll into Santa Clara for Thursday Night Football, Brian Daboll’s squad will be missing a few key pieces, including their star running back.
After suffering an ankle injury late in the Giants’ Week 2 comeback win against the Arizona Cardinals, Saquon Barkley has been officially rule out for Week 3 against the Niners. Along with Barkley, the Giants will also be missing OT Andrew Thomas (hamstring), OL Ben Bredeson (concussion) and Edge Azeez Ojulari (hamstring),

Barkley is coming off a two-touchdown effort against the Cardinals on Sunday. He ran for 63 yards on the ground to go with one rushing touchdown The former Penn State back added 29 yards receiving and one touchdown reception.
Without Barkley, former 49ers tailback Matt Brieda will likely get a bulk of the carries in the Giants backfield. Former sixth-rounder Gary Brightwell and rookie fifth-round pick Eric Gray round out the rest of the Giants’ rushing attack.
Kickoff is set for 5:15 p.m. PT on Thursday night for the 49ers’ home opener at Levis Stadium.
