Injury update from Chiefs training camp: DB Juan Thornhill practices for first time

It looks like Thornhill has been cleared to return to practice with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs were back at practice on Wednesday after having the previous day off:

Here is the full list of players that didn’t practice today:

  • CB Lavert Hill (Hamstring)
  • DT Chris Jones (Groin)
  • DE Frank Clark (Illness)
  • LB Darius Harris (Excused)
  • LT Eric Fisher (Concussion)
  • TE Deon Yelder (Groin)
  • TE Ricky Seals-Jones (Leg)
  • WR Sammy Watkins (Groin)
  • WR Byron Pringle (Hamstring)
  • OT Martinas Rankin (PUP)

The big news of the day is that the Chiefs welcomed two players back to practice.

Juan Thornhill, who has been on the physically unable to perform list, practiced for the first time on Wednesday. According to The Athletic’s Nate Taylor, Thornhill did individual drills, the defensive walkthrough and stretching. Taylor presumes that Thornhill isn’t yet cleared for contact, which is why he didn’t participate in team periods at practice. Andy Reid added they plan to ramp Thornhill’s work up as camp continues.

The second player returning to practice was second-year linebacker Darius Harris. He’s someone that general manager Brett Veach hyped up last year, so it’ll be interesting to see where he fits on the Chiefs’ roster moving forward.

The Chiefs also welcomed an old friend to practice, with Marcus Kemp rejoining the team. Kemp was in for a tryout on Monday and appears to have signed a deal to rejoin the team. Though, his transaction hasn’t yet been made official, expect it to come later today. If you’ll recall Kemp suffered a knee injury in 2019. The Chiefs opted not to re-sign Kemp this offseason as an ERFA. Now, he’s back and ready to work.

Tight end Daniel Helm, who was claimed by the team on Sunday, was also at practice for the first time on Wednesday.
