Injury Report: Warriors’ Gary Payton II (lower back) out vs. Timberwolves on Sunday

Warriors guard Gary Payton II is slated to miss his second consecutive game due to a lower back injury on Sunday against the Timberwolves.

With Steph Curry (hand) and Draymond Green (calf) already ruled out on Sunday, the Golden State Warriors added another player to the injury report against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Gary Payton II is set to miss his second consecutive game due to lower back spasms. Against the Bucks, Payton II left the game with a back injury after playing five minutes in the contest.

Payton II has played a featured role in Golden State’s rotation over the last 11 games, playing 14 or more minutes in each contest during that span. Payton II has also been a starter in Steve Kerr’s lineup in eight of the last 10 games.

During the 2021-22 campaign, Payton II is averaging 7.8 points on 64.7% shooting from the field with 3.6 boards in 40 games.

Without Payton and Curry, Klay Thompson, Jordan Poole and Damion Lee will shoulder most of the responsibilities in Golden State’s backcourt on Sunday night in Minnesota.

The Warriors are set to meet the Timberwolves on Sunday at 5 p.m. PT.
