Penn State wrestling’s Brady Berge announced he’s stepping away from the sport after suffering an injury in the NCAA Tournament this season.

Berge, who wrestled at 157 pounds, released a statement to his Twitter account stating that his health was the determining factor when making his decision.

Berge noted that multiple concussions during his career also were a part of his decision-making. One of those concussions occurred during the U23 World Championships in 2019. Berge only competed in two matches with Penn State that season.

Berge had an impressive start to this year’s NCAA Tournament by taking down two opponents before ultimately forfeiting his quarterfinals match due to injury.

“This sport has brought me around the best mentors, teammates and coaches that walk the earth,” Berge said. “I am eternally grateful for everyone that I have met through this sport.

Berge finished his Penn State career with 31 wins and nine losses, including 11 major decisions and three technical falls.
