Update: Ezekiel Elliott has returned to the game.
The Dallas Cowboys are going to have to mount a comeback without the services of their star running back, at least for now. RB Ezekiel Elliott asked out of the game following a first-quarter reception, his 50th of the season. The nine-yard reception was good for a first down, but Elliott was immediately replaced and was not seen on the subsequent drive either.
Tony Pollard has been in as his replacement since. Elliott has been dealing with a calf injury recently, missing the Week 15 contest, and a hamstring injury prior to that. On the sideline, he appeared to be stretching out his upper right leg.
Elliott and Pollard split snaps in last week’s game, so this may just be more of that.
If he can’t return, he will end up 47 yards shy of 1,000 yards rushing on the season. He entered the game needing 63 yards to get there for the fourth time in his five seasons.
