IndyCar planning for a new chassis, powertrain for the 2027 season

IndyCar is planning the release of a new chassis and powertrain for the 2027 season. Find out more details behind the possibility!

The NTT IndyCar Series is ready to begin the 2024 season in St. Petersburg, and the excitement is through the roof. Alex Palou is looking to defend his IndyCar championship while the competition tries to catch him. Meanwhile, Kyle Larson will attempt “The Double” in late May, making his IndyCar debut. However, other news has swarmed the paddock leading up to the first race.

According to Mark Miles, the chief executive officer of IndyCar, the sport is looking to debut a new powertrain unit and a new chassis for the 2027 season. This would be massive for IndyCar, as the current chassis has been in effect since 2010. However, IndyCar did adjust it by adding an aero screen in 2020, which has been great for the drivers.

This is big news as Honda ponders its future in the racing series. The manufacturer has been heavily linked to NASCAR over the last few months and continues to be in the conversation for IndyCar. It’s fair to assume that Honda may not stick around. Maybe a new chassis and powertrain unit would help make their decision easier, but either way, this is big for IndyCar.
