With the Indianapolis Colts Week 5 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars behind us, we have snap count figures from the game. So in that regard, what stood out?
Now five weeks into the NFL season, there isn’t as many observations to be made as there was a month ago, with most rotations and playing time being well documented at this point.
However, there is still a bit we can glean from these figures, both in regards to where things stand on the depth chart and what the game-plan was for the Colts.

Quick takeaways:
– Rookie receiver AD Mitchell saw increased playing time in this game with 19 snaps. He had played just 20 combined snaps in the previous two games. Given the number of snaps, Mitchell was thrown to often with seven targets. His production was modest with four receptions for 38 yards.
– The Colts want to get their rookies along the offensive line experience. With Ryan Kelly out the last two games and Will Fries exiting Sunday’s game, the Colts have turned to Tanor Bortolini and Dalton Tucker over Danny Pinter.
– The Colts went with a more blocking heavy approach at tight end, with Mo Alie-Cox and Drew Ogletree taking the bulk of the snaps there. The discrepancy in snaps between Josh Downs and Alec Pierce/Michael Pittman is because of the heavier usage of two tight end sets.
– Not surprising, but a good mix at running back of Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson at running back in Jonathan Taylor’s absence.

Quick takeaways:
– Sam Womack continues to take the bulk of the snaps across from Jaylon Jones, but I think we’ve seen enough now to where he should be taking just about all of the snaps over Dallis Flowers.
– Next to Grover Stewart, Taven Bryan and Raekwon Davis continue to basically split playing time. Also of note, Adam Gotsis, who was signed from the practice squad to the 53-man roster this week, played as many snaps as Adetomiwa Adebawore and out-snapped Isaiah Land.
