In loss at Dallas, Rockets lose Danuel House Jr. to right foot strain

Though X-rays were negative, Danuel House Jr. returned to Houston’s bench in a walking boot, which did not suggest a quick return.

After playing his best game of the 2021-22 NBA season to date, Houston lost reserve forward Danuel House Jr. to a right foot strain. The Rockets said during Tuesday’s game at Dallas that X-rays were negative, but he was ruled out and returned to the bench in a walking boot. There was no immediate word as to a potential absence moving forward.

The Mavericks went on to win the game, 116-106 (box score), which dropped Houston to 1-3 on the regular season. Luka Doncic led Dallas (2-1) with 26 points, 14 rebounds, and 7 assists, while veteran guard Eric Gordon scored 22 points off the bench for the Rockets (recap).

Prior to the second-quarter injury, House had scored 8 points in just 9 minutes, including 2-of-3 on 3-pointers. The 6-foot-6 forward had also grabbed 4 rebounds while playing valuable defense.

With House out for the time being, that could open up more minutes off the Houston bench to second-year forward KJ Martin.
