In Green Bay Packers training camp, Jon Runyan ‘as advertised’

The first-year Packers guard is making an early impression in his first year away from Michigan football.

You don’t win All-Big Ten first-team honors twice for nothing. Yet, many doubted former Michigan football left tackle Jon Runyan Jr.’s viability in the NFL.

Sure, he had to switch positions, going from playing outside on the offensive line to inside at guard — given that’s more of a natural fit for him in the NFL. But still, the former Wolverine has been proving doubters wrong each of the last two years once he finally got the opportunity to be a starter.

PFF had Runyan as the No. 136 tackle in 2019 and Green Bay took a chance on the Michigan standout, drafting him in the sixth-round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Thus far, one of the in-house writers for the Packers has been impressed, noting on Sunday that Runyan possesses what you want to see from an incoming offensive lineman.

Given that we’re about halfway through training camps, it’s still relatively early to peg whether or not Runyan will make the 53-man roster this fall. But, if he’s showing out at this juncture, assuredly, he has a good shot.
