Former NFL quarterback Brady Quinn, the Vikings mock general manager for a recent CBS Sports draft, got pretty creative when it came to the first round.
Quinn traded the 22nd pick for Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in the mock draft.
Minnesota saw three cornerbacks leave in free agency this offseason, so it would come as no surprise for the Vikings to draft a player at that position.
However, a CBS Sports mock draft had the Vikings filling that void in the first round via trade. Quinn was at it again, giving the 25th pick to the Cardinals in exchange for Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson. He’s an experienced corner who could come in and start right away. I think that would be a solid choice by the Vikings.
I think the Beckham Jr. pick, if it actually came to fruition, would be great. Maybe the Vikings should hold off on drafting a wideout until later in the draft, due to the depth of the wide receiver class, but I think if they could get Beckham Jr. for the No. 22 pick, that’s too good to pass up.
Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield struggled to get his wide receivers the ball in 2019, and Beckham Jr. still finished with 1,035 receiving yards, a career low, besides the year where he missed all but four games, due to an ankle injury that resulted in season-ending surgery.
Imagine what Beckham Jr. could do with a good deep-ball passer in Kirk Cousins, a good wide receiver to take the pressure off in Adam Thielen, and a team that is coming off a season where it won a playoff game? I’d say the team would have to do it if that trade actually came up.
