In case you wondered, no the Steelers do not need RB Leonard Fourtnette

Leonard Fourtnette is not the answer to the Steelers problems.

After unsuccessfully trying to trade him, the Jacksonville Jaguars have decided to cut ties with running back Leonard Fournette and have waived him. And before any of you Pittsburgh Steelers fans get any ideas, no he’s not the answer to the Steelers problems at running back.

Fournette was drafted No. 4 overall in the 2017 NFL draft out of LSU. The scouting report on him was pretty simple. Huge back with speed who is just as happy running over someone as away from them. But after three seasons with two of them being solid, the Jaguars have decided it was best to cut ties.

On paper it might seem like a big bruiser like Fournette would be an asset to the Steelers. But if you look at the Steelers running backs, it’s pretty clear this isn’t the direction the Steelers want to go. Backs are getting lighter and faster which fits what the Steelers do on offense.

I’m sure Fournette will clear waivers and sit on the open market for a period of time. And eventually, he will probably sign a one-year prove-it type of contract with someone. But it doesn’t need to be the Steelers.
