Probably the most resilient Buffs team I can remember in recent years was finally rewarded for their never-give-up attitude.
Tad Boyle has talked a lot recently about getting over the hump, and following a near-comeback win vs. UCLA, the Buffs fell behind big once again on Tuesday in enemy territory. This time, however, was different.
Tasked with overcoming an early 15-point hole, Colorado rallied in the second half to beat the Oregon Ducks in Eugene for the first time since 2013.
“I talked to our team before we took the floor. I said, ‘let’s remember what just happened in the second half of UCLA: we got better,’” Boyle said on the Colorado Radio Network. “‘We got better in that half, we were tough, we got great shots, we competed and we guarded. I said that’s what we have to build on, and we built on that tonight.”
Amid speculation surrounding his ability to remain the starting PG, Keeshawn Barthelemy proved himself still worthy with a stellar 19-point performance, including a 9-for-9 mark from the stripe.
Jabari Walker, too, was great for the Buffs. His 24 points and 11 rebounds are what we’ve come to expect from CU’s budding superstar.
In a game that was originally scheduled for Dec. 30, the Buffs snapped a six-game win streak Oregon had built since then. The victory also marked Colorado’s first over a Quad 1 opponent, which should inspire some hope for a spot in the Big Dance.
