‘I’m not usually one that tries to chase stats’ – Derrick White on his first career triple-double

“I’ve just got to shout out my teammates,” he said.

If you are surprised by the Boston Celtics’ recent blowout win over the Detroit Pistons being the first career triple-double of guard Derrick White‘s career, it’s because the man is no fan of stat padding. And there were a few minutes of the Colorado native getting left on the court to try to reach that achievement vs. Detroit, to White’s Chagrin.

“I mean, I’m not usually one that tries to chase stats or whatnot, I saw that I was one away — that’s probably why I had those three turnovers there,” explained the Colorado alum of his big night postgame via CLNS Media.

“I’ve been close a lot of times, so I was like I’m going to try to get it this time,” he reflected. “I’ve just got to shout out my teammates.”

White put up a stat line of 22 points, 10 rebounds, and as many assists, going 8-of-20 from the field and a sizzling 6-of-12 from beyond the arc in 37 minutes of floor time.
