Illinois dominates Big Ten players of the Week

Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa stake claim to players of the week in Week 10.

For the first time since Chase Brown in 2022, an Illinois player was named Offensive Player of the Week in the Big Ten.

This time it belonged to wide receiver Isaiah Williams, who hauled in 13 receptions for 131 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the 27-26 win over Minnesota. His second came on a 46-yard catch and run with just under a minute remaining to give the Fighting Illini the late lead. He was also responsible for keeping their hopes intact with a 22-yard reception on fourth and 11. Williams’ 13 receptions in the game were the most by a Big Ten player in 2023.

The Defensive Player of the Week hails from Indiana. The Hoosiers senior linebacker Aaron Casey helped the team finally earn a Big Ten victory this season. His seven tackles in the fourth quarter were enough to shut out the Wisconsin Badgers offense and maintain the 20-14 edge. Casey tallied nine total tackles, 4.0 TFLs, and 2.0 sacks. According to the Big Ten, no Hoosiers’ defender has won Player of the Week honors since 2020.

In the offense-optional matchup between Iowa and Northwestern produced the Special Teams Player of the Week. Iowa kicker Drew Stevens nailed a 53-yard game-winning field goal with less than 15 seconds to go in the game.

Illinois checked back in with the Freshman of the Week. Running back Kaden Feagin finished with 148 yards of total offense in the win over Minnesota. He rushed 89 yards and added a 54-yard touchdown reception from Luke Altmyer in the third quarter.
