‘I’ll remember this game forever;’ Arik Armstead discusses 2-sack performance in 49ers’ playoff win

When it mattered the most, former Oregon great Arik Armstead came up with two pivotal sacks in the 49ers’ playoff win over Aaron Rodgers and the Packers.

If you watched the Green Bay Packers’ first offensive drive of the game, you might have instantly thought that it was going to be a long night for the San Francisco 49ers defense.

Former Oregon Duck Arik Armstead and Co. thought otherwise. After going 10 plays for 69 yards and a touchdown to open the game, Packers’ QB Aaron Rodgers was held to just 3 points throughout the rest of the game, and the 49ers were able to mount a comeback to win the divisional playoff game, 13-10, in temperatures that hovered around 14 degrees, with a wind-chill near zero.

During the comeback in the second half, it was Armstead who came up with a pair of momentous sacks that allowed Jimmy Garrapolo and the offense to get the ball back and eventually kick a game-winning field goal as time expired. Armstead was certainly fired up after the game.

“I just don’t want to go home,” Armstead said. “I told me D-Line, ‘Man I just want to keep this going, keep making memories with you guys.’ I’ll remember this game forever, this is crazy.”

Armstead isn’t going home any time soon, with an NFC Championship matchup secured for next week. The 49ers will face either the Los Angeles Rams or Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who play in the divisional round on Sunday afternoon.
