Wednesday night’s Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres game featured one of the strangest pitches of the MLB season.
While going up against Padres designated hitter Donovan Solano, Nationals pitcher/second baseman Ildemaro Vargas threw what looked like an eephus pitch to Solano.
The Padres slugger hit the ball with ease and made it on base, and Vargas’ pitched clocked in at a tepid 33 MPH after the throw.
The game’s broadcasters couldn’t believe just how slow Vargas’ pitch was, as 33 mph is easily one of the slowest MLB throws we’ve seen a long time.
We’re not really sure what the strategy was here for Vargas, as we’re just as perplexed as the broadcasters were. This really was one of the weirdest (and slowest) moments on the mound for the MLB this season.
