‘Iconic duos rip and split at the seams’: Texans QB Deshaun Watson quotes Drake lyrics

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson quoted Drake lyrics on Monday that mentioned “iconic duos rip and split at the seam.”

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson tweeted some lyrics on Monday that are open to interpretation given the organization’s free agent moves last week.

The two-time Pro Bowl quarterback tweeted out lyrics from the Drake album Emotionless that describe fittingly the trade of three-time All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals.

“i don’t know how i’ma make it out of here clean,” Watson tweeted, “can’t even keep track of who plays for the other team.. iconic duos rip and split at the seams”

Watson and Hopkins were more than quarterback and receiver; they were both Clemson alumni and products of Dabo Swinney, who has provided two national championships to the program since taking over as head football coach in 2009.

On July 8, 2018, even though Watson had only played seven NFL games to that point due to an untimely ACL injury on Nov. 2, 2017, that summarily ended his rookie year, Hopkins declared the former 2017 first-round pick his favorite quarterback.

“It’s very exciting to be able to play with that guy,” said Hopkins. “He’s my favorite quarterback. He was my favorite quarterback when he was in college.”

There was a connection and affinity between Watson and Hopkins, and it is why they were so effective together on the field.

According to Watson on Aug. 6, 2019, their on-field chemistry was such that all they had to do was look at each other to communicate their next move.

“We can just kind of look at each other and know exactly what we want,” Watson told reporters. “Depending on the route concept and what we want to do, we just have that knit, that chemistry. It’s like we’ve been playing with each other for years now.

“We kind of relate with each other on the field and off the field, so that kind of makes it easier.”

Now, it is all gone and Watson has to start over.
