The North Carolina Tar Heels received bad news on Tuesday when class of 2023 commit Simeon Wilcher requested a release from his letter of intent and left the program. Shortly after, rumors spread on Twitter that Wilcher wouldn’t be the only decommit the Tar Heels would have.
And as was the case a few weeks ago, Ian Jackson’s name came up.
Jackson quickly addressed those rumors in an interview with Dushawn London of 247Sports, talking to the reporter about his plans in his recruitment. The five-star shooting guard told London he will stay in 2024 and is 100% committed to North Carolina:
“I have considered (reclassifying) but I feel as if I want to take this year to prepare my body and my mind to walk into UNC as a professional,” Jackson told 247Sports. “I’m 100% committed to UNC and will join the program next season (2024-25).”
This is the second time this year Jackson has had to address rumors of a reclassification or decommitting. It’s the second time he’s also reaffirmed a commitment to UNC. Give him props for addressing it in a timely manner and getting ahead of any rumors that could spread.
As UNC found out on Tuesday, anything can happen in recruitments even at the last hour. But Tar Heels’ fans have to be happy with Jackson’s comments at least.
