The Brooklyn Nets have spoken to a few teams about a trade for Ben Simmons, according to Ian Begley of SNY. Now that the Nets appear to be going into rebuild mode with the trades of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, it makes sense to put out feelers for teams possibly interested in Simmons.
While Simmons is only 26 years old and can still be part of a rebuild, it’s clear that he isn’t the same player he was when he was making All-Star teams as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers. Simmons’ stats are down across the board in comparison to his career numbers..
Simmons’ contract is among the worst values in the league as he is making a little over $35 million this season, but is providing little production at this point. Even though it has been reported that Simmons has little to no trade value, it’s possible that trading Simmons at negative value would be better than paying him to be ineffective.
If Nets-Suns Kevin Durant trade hadn’t been finalized tonight, teams expected to pick it up early Thursday AM & get to finish line. For Nets, finalizing it early Thurs gives them opportunity to do more before 3p deadline. BKN spoke w/a few teams about Ben Simmons post-Kyrie trade
