‘I hate Iowa’: Nebraska DB Omar Brown shares feelings about Hawkeyes

Iowa gave Nebraska defensive back Omar Brown a final reason to hate the Hawkeyes.

It makes sense why Nebraska would hate Iowa.

The Hawkeyes just handed the Huskers another heartbreaker. The latest was courtesy of backup kicker Marshall Meeder. The senior transfer from Central Michigan didn’t even know if he’d play football this season.

Then, a phone call from Iowa special teams coach LeVar Woods resulted in Meeder coming to Iowa City and playing the role of latest Husker assassin.

Iowa’s 13-10 win had plenty of late-game theatrics. According to senior Nebraska defensive back Omar Brown, it had plenty of jawing, too.

Afterwards, Brown shared his distaste for the Hawkeyes.

“I can say now, I don’t like Iowa. I hate Iowa. I’ll always say that for life. I hope Nebraska whoops Iowa every year. They were talking so much trash out there,” Brown said.

Brown will have to wait another year for any of that Nebraska whooping Iowa talk.

With their walk-off winner from Meeder, Iowa has now captured the Heroes Trophy for the eighth time in the past nine seasons. Since Nebraska joined the Big Ten, Iowa owns a 9-4 mark in the rivalry.

Iowa also won its sixth straight game in Lincoln. It’s the longest winning streak for a team at Nebraska since Oklahoma won eight straight from 1943-57.

The Hawkeyes had already secured their spot in next week’s Big Ten Championship, but Iowa also ensured itself of a 10-win season with the win over the Huskers. It’s the seventh time in program history that Iowa has won 10 or more games during the regular season and the 11th time that the Hawkeyes have won 10 or more games in a season.

Iowa will battle Michigan next Saturday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. CT for the Big Ten Championship.
