After a successful early signing period, one name was left in a bit of limbo and that was four-star defensive back Gentry Williams. Williams, the No. 1 player in the state of Oklahoma made it known that he planned to sign on National Signing Day in February.
Though all signs pointed to Williams signing with the Sooners, the lack of a signature opened the door for other teams to get their last-second pitches in. Per Brandon Drumm of OUInsider at 247Sports, Gentry Williams is locked in with the Oklahoma Sooners.

Gentry Williams told me the other night that he was letting other staffs know his intentions and added, “I am all #OU. Time go to work with Coach Venables, Coach Valai and Coach Roof. Bring that natty back home to my state.” #Okpreps https://t.co/3NJ1q2SSzO

Williams posted pictures to his social media account on Tuesday afternoon with the caption “let’s ride.” In a conversation with Drumm, Williams added, “I am all OU. Time to go work with Coach Venables, Coach Valai, and Coach Roof. Bring that natty back home to my state.”
It’s been 21 years since the Oklahoma Sooners won a national championship, but with a renewed energy under the leadership of Brent Venables and his staff, there’s optimism that the Sooners can once again finish the season as the No. 1 team in the land.
Armed with new defensive backs coach Jay Valai, the Oklahoma Sooners were able to close the door on an important commitment, keeping the No. 1 player in Oklahoma home to play his college football.
Williams played on both sides of the ball during his time in college, playing quarterback on the offensive side to help Booker T. Washington make the playoffs his first two seasons in high school.
Williams joins fellow Tulsa area four-star defensive backs Robert Spears-Jennings and Jayden Rowe to form quite the trio for Valai, Roof, and Venables to help build the Sooners defensive backfield.
