On Wednesday afternoon, Nebraska received some surprising news when veteran defensive lineman Casey Rogers’s name appeared in the transfer portal. Rogers has appeared in 19 games in the last three seasons for Cornhuskers with a total of 42 tackles and 1.5 sacks in his career. He was expected to compete for a starting job in 2022 for a unit that was already thin coming out of spring practice. However, the timing is less than ideal, considering the Huskers are still waiting to hear where TCU defensive end transfer Ochaun Mathis will be playing in 2022 playing. Nebraska is one of his announced finalists, and a further depleted group could hinder the ability to get his commitment. It’s always important to remember that just because you enter your name into the transfer portal does not mean you’re leaving. The Husker coaching staff will have plenty of time to make a case for Rogers to stay. Here’s hoping he’s willing to listen.
