Since being hired in November, new Auburn head football coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] has wasted no time trying to improve the roster through the transfer portal.
In an interview with On3, Freeze listed the positions that he would still like to go after in the portal.
“We would like another receiver or two,” Freeze said. “Maybe another D-end. Maybe another linebacker, DB. We’re open. I think we’re pretty set at O-line now and quarterback room for sure, but we’re always open to looking.”
Auburn’s roster surely has holes to fill but the program is in a better place than it was just a few months ago.
The Tigers will likely be improved on the offensive line due to key transfer portal additions such as [autotag]Gunner Britton[/autotag] from Western Kentucky, [autotag]Avery Jones[/autotag] from East Carolina and [autotag]Dillon Wade[/autotag] and [autotag]Jaden Mustkrat[/autotag] from Tulsa.
Britton is the No. 3 ranked offensive tackle in the portal according to On3, Wade, and Muskrat are ranked No. 22 and 31 respectively at the position. Jones is the No. 18 ranked interior offensive lineman in the portal.
Freeze and company were able to land [autotag]Payton Thorne[/autotag], a transfer quarterback from Michigan State expected to immediately impact the Tigers’ offense. Finding a few wide receivers in the portal would put Auburn in the best position possible to compete in 2023.
Defensive end and linebacker are other spots that Auburn will put an emphasis on improving before the spring portal period comes to a close.
