Hubert Davis wants UNC to take it one game at a time

UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis isn’t ready to say the Tar Heels are facing ‘must-win’ games yet. But time is running out.

The North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball team knows the task ahead of them if they want to avoid making history and become the first AP preseason No. 1 team to miss the NCAA Tournament.

With three games remaining, UNC is on the wrong side of the bubble and does not have a Quad 1 win this season but has the chance to earn one on Saturday against Virginia. UNC also has a game at Florida State on Monday before hosting Duke to close out the regular season.

It’s clear that the Tar Heels need to finish strong and a 3-0 finish would be huge. But for Hubert Davis, he doesn’t see these games as ‘must-win’ just yet:

Now, Davis probably is saying this so that his players don’t feel the pressure and make more of a game that what it is — a game.

If they go out with confidence and play well, things should take care of itself.

But to those on the outside of the program, the realization is that they really need to win the remaining three games or face the option of winning the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
