North Carolina got a much-needed win on Saturday afternoon, taking care of business against Virginia Tech. With the win, UNC kept their hold of first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference ahead of a showdown with Virginia on Saturday.
The win was also a milestone for head coach Hubert Davis in his third season as head coach. Last season, Davis became just the second North Carolina head coach to have 20 wins in his first two seasons, tying Bill Guthridge. And the win over Virginia Tech gave him 20 again, as he and Guthridge are now the only two coaches in program history to have 20 wins in their first THREE seasons.

Davis is no stranger to hitting milestones in his career at North Carolina, either. In his first season, he reached 20 wins and took his team to the Final Four.
He was the fourth ACC coach in 25 years to win 20 games and the first division 1 coach in the last 20 years to reach the Final Four in his first season.
After what happened last year with the Tar Heels missing the NCAA Tournament, it’s refreshing to see where they are at in this part of the season.
But there’s a long ways to go this season and the Tar Heels will have to take it one game at a time.
