The No. 3 UNC men’s basketball program will hit the road to take on the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday.
Since [autotag]Hubert Davis[/autotag] took over the head coaching duties, the Tar Heels have gone 3-0 against the FSU. Earlier this season, UNC took down the Seminoles 78-70 due to a strong second half, where the Tar Heels outscored the Seminoles by 14 points.
Both teams have gotten better since playing each other earlier in the year. UNC enters this game riding a nine-game win streak and is the leader of the ACC. Meanwhile, FSU is on North Carolina’s heels as the second-ranked team in the ACC, slightly above the Duke Blue Devils.
One of the biggest threats to UNC leaving Florida with their winning streak snapped is FSU’s Jamir Watkins, who finished with a career-high 27 points against Syracuse on Tuesday. During Friday’s presser, I asked Davis about Watkins’s impact and how to limit his scoring.
“His talent is real…Tremendous athleticism and size and can play multiple positions,” Davis said. “He’s really good at attacking the basket, and because of his athleticism he’s able to score when he gets there…So, a huge emphasis on us is to keep him out of the paint and defend him without fouling…He’s one of the better players in this conference and he has our full attention tomorrow at 2 p.m.”
Watkins finished with 17 points, going 3/6 behind the arch and grabbing eight rebounds in the first meeting against UNC.
