If you’ve watched any of the first three games of the season for the North Carolina Tar Heels this season, you may have noticed a difference in Hubert Davis on the sideline.
Instead of quarter zips this year, Davis has ditched them and gone to a suit and tie. The reason? It’s Carolina Basketball.
Davis was asked after Friday’s win over UC Riverside on why he made the switch from a casual look to a suit and tie. He pointed to former coaches as the reason why.
“Coach Smith, Coach Guthridge, Coach Doherty, and Coach Williams wore coat and tie. And that’s Carolina Basketball,” Davis said via Inside Carolina. “And so with COVID we kind of got out of it and I just wanted to go back to it. I didn’t want to have a tie, I’m a little active on the sidelines … but having a sport coat means something to me. And it just draws me closer to the history and the foundation of what this place is all about and the coaches that have been head coach before me.”
It’s awesome that Davis is going back to older coaches and paying homage to them and the program. Being a Tar Heel, Davis knows exactly what it’s like to be a part of this program.
