What a turnaround it has been for North Carolina Tar Heels’ head coach Hubert Davis.
Just last season the Tar Heels entered the year as the No. 1 team in the preseason polls and failed to make the NCAA Tournament. Now, Davis has his team as the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season champions and the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.
After a 17-3 record in ACC play, Davis was named the 2024 ACC Coach of the Year by voters. He earned 49 votes, beating out Jeff Capel who had 12 votes to finish second:
Hubert Davis, North Carolina, 49 votes
Jeff Capel, Pitt, 12
Adrian Autry, Syracuse, 6
Micah Shrewsberry, Notre Dame, 3
Jon Scheyer, Duke, 2
Brad Brownell, Clemson, 1
Damon Stoudamire, Georgia Tech, 1
Tony Bennett, Virginia, 1
Davis is UNC’s first ACC Coach of the Year honoree since Roy Williams in 2011. His team also tied the ACC record for most wins in a season, finishing with 17.
This is just one of a few awards UNC won including RJ Davis being named the ACC Player of the Year as well.
