Howard Mudd in ICU after motorcycle accident

Colts legendary OL coach in ICU after a motorcycle accident.

Former Indianapolis Colts offensive line coach Howard Mudd was involved in a motorcycle accident and is in ICU at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

On Wednesday, Mudd was hospitalized after the accident resulted in a fractured pelvis and spine. He had surgery on the fractured pelvis on Saturday but is still awaiting surgery on his spine.

Mudd was one of the best offensive line coaches in the history of the NFL. He held that role with the Colts from 1998–2009 and returned for a short stint during the 2019 season.

Colts owner and CEO Jim Irsay tweeted, “We’re praying for Howard and hoping for the best. Our thoughts are with Shirley and their children.”

Mudd spent time with eight different coaching staffs in the NFL but is best known for crafting the elite offensive line that protected Peyton Manning during their time together with the Colts.
