Oklahoma impressed in its season opener on Saturday, blowing out Missouri State 48-0. OU jumped out to an early lead before taking its foot off the gas—the Sooners led 28-0 at the end of the first quarter.
All eyes were under center as redshirt freshman Spencer Rattler made his long-awaited debut as Oklahoma’s quarterback. The newcomer impressed, totaling 290 passing yards and four touchdowns on 14-17 passing.
Oklahoma’s defense shined as well. The Sooners held Missouri State to just 135 yards. Safety Delarrin Turner-Yell also nabbed an interception, getting the defense’s first takeaway under its belt early on.
After Rattler checked out, sophomore quarterback Tanner Mordecai kept up the pace. Mordecai totaled 157 yards and one touchdown on 14-17 passing.
