As the football world progresses closer and closer to the start of the season, the NFL has announced the schedules for all 32 teams, so each organization now knows who, when and where they’ll be playing.
The Miami Dolphins added a ton of offensive talent this year with the hopes that they’ll be able to compete for a playoff spot in the 2022 season, the first under head coach Mike McDaniel.
How easy will it be to get there? That’s something that can’t be foreseen. However, analysts measure strength of schedule in two different ways.
The first method is done by finding the prior season’s winning percentage of all of the teams that one team is playing in the upcoming year. For the Dolphins, their opponents in 2022 had a .481 winning percentage in 2021. This gives the Dolphins the 12th easiest schedule.
This method does have holes, considering each team has had changes this offseason.
The second practice, which is put together by NFL analyst Warren Sharp, uses projected win totals of opponents by Vegas oddsmakers. According to his data, oddsmakers have Miami’s opponents set to win an average of 8.391 games in 2022. This gives the Dolphins the 11th easiest schedule just behind the Minnesota Vikings and ahead of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In this instance, there’s not much of a disparity. The Dolphins shouldn’t have too tough of a time this season, despite all of the changes that have taken place in the conference.
