Finally, the road to WrestleMania has arrived. On Saturday, Jan. 27, the Royal Rumble premium live event will kick off at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, featuring two matches that will determine the No. 1 contender for a men’s and women’s world title at the Grandest Stage of Them All in April.
In 2023, Rhea Ripley won the Women’s Royal Rumble match and went on to defeat Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 39 for the Smackdown Women’s Championship, now known as the Women’s World Championship, ever since. If she remains champion by WrestleMania 40, the winner of the 2024 Women’s Royal Rumble match will have the opportunity to face her or WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY.
After winning the 2023 Men’s Royal Rumble match, Cody Rhodes challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. Although he ultimately lost, he is a favorite to become the No. 1 contender for a world title again and, if he wins at Tropicana Field, it would make Rhodes vs. Reigns II the logical next step.
Winning a tournament to determine Logan Paul’s opponent for the WWE United States Championship, Kevin Owens will challenge him for the title as the Maverick’s first defense. Paul has had a quiet reign since becoming champion at Crown Jewel, so will he have a successful first title defense?
Roman Reigns will also, for the first time since Crown Jewel, defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, but in a Fatal Four-Way match against AJ Styles, LA Knight and Randy Orton. With WrestleMania around the corner, is this the match the Tribal Chief finally loses his belt?
These matches will grace Royal Rumble. Here’s everything you need to know to watch the action this weekend.
