Breaking down the 2020 Masters Tournament, with a look at the PGA Tour betting odds and options, as well as key stats and details for Augusta National.

The 2020 Masters Tournament is finally here. Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, will welcome a field of 94 this week with the tournament running Nov. 12-15. It’s the first-ever fall Masters after it was postponed from mid-April due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There’ll still be no patrons allowed on the grounds as Tiger Woods aims for a second straight and record-tying sixth career green jacket.

Usually the unofficial beginning of the PGA Tour season, the Masters is the third-to-last individual tournament on the 2020 Tour schedule. It will be played again in its usual position next spring, with the 2021 Masters set for April 8-11.

Below, we’ll look at the favorites to win the Masters and all the betting options, with a breakdown of Augusta National and all the key stats to know when making your betting picks.

2020 Masters: Betting options

Masters futures have been available on BetMGM for over a year with the 2020 tournament postponed seven months by the pandemic. Those have been frequently adjusted throughout the 2020 PGA Tour schedule and will remain available as outright odds to win.

Early this week, additional options will be made available. These will include tournament placings, group and matchup betting, and round-by-round leaders. Tournament props will be released for things like whether or not there’ll be a hole-in-one or a playoff.

Shortly after the green jacket is awarded Sunday afternoon, futures odds for the 2021 Masters Tournament will be posted.

The course: Augusta National Golf Club

The most famous golf course in America and the only annual host of a PGA Tour major, Augusta National has been prepped and altered to play to its usual standard during the first fall Masters.

ANGC measures 7,475 yards and plays to a par of 72. Elevation ranges from 160-310 feet with sometimes severe undulation forcing golfers into some creative shots even from the middle of the fairways.

The Bentgrass greens are well known as the most challenging putting surfaces in all of golf. They’re multi-tiered and feature mind-bending, sweeping breaks. They’ll also play exceptionally quick and competitors can quickly see the tournament slip away by having their ball roll off the false fronts.

Water is a prominent hazard on the back nine. Nos. 11, 12, 13, 15 and 16 all feature water along the fairway and/or green. The rest of the course is guarded by tight tree lines and well-positioned greenside bunkers.

2020 Masters: Key stats

Experience has been far more important at Augusta National than any other PGA Tour venue. No one has won here in their first appearance since Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979. The only other two to do so were Horton Smith and Gene Sarazen in the first two runnings of the tournament.

Putting is the most important skill. While extremely difficult to predict success on a tournament-by-tournament basis, Strokes Gained: Putting over a large sample and 3-Putt Avoidance need to be in your stat model. Success on Bentgrass, in particular, is important. Strokes Gained: Around-the-Green should also be considered.

Par 4 Efficiency: 450-500 Yards is next. Of the six holes to play below par last year, four of them were the four par 5s. Only the 350-yard third had an average score below par among the par 4s. Playing the par 4s even par for the week is a success.
