Tennessee is set to play in the College World Series for the fifth time in program history, its first appearance since 2005.

The College World Series gets underway Saturday and Tennessee will take the field for its opener Sunday against Virginia. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. EDT at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska.
Tennessee is in the College World Series along with Virginia, Texas, Mississippi State, Stanford, Vanderbilt, North Carolina State and Arizona.
When Tennessee plays Virginia, it will represent the first meeting between the two schools. Virginia last made the College World Series in 2015 when they defeated Vanderbilt to win the national championship.
The Vols and Cavaliers are in the same bracket with Mississippi State and Texas.
Texas and Tennessee have met on the diamond twice. The Vols won both meetings in 2008 and 2012. Texas was coached by Augie Garrido, who won five national championships in his career.
Tennessee and Mississippi State have played 90 times since 1917 with the Bulldogs holding a 60-30 advantage. The two last met in 2019 with Mississippi State winning two out of three games at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
In the other bracket, Vanderbilt, Arizona, Stanford and North Carolina will battle for a chance to play in the best-of-3 championship series.
Tennessee and Vanderbilt’s series dates to 1897 and the two schools have played 345 times. The Vols hold a 178-163-2 advantage in the all-time series.
Vanderbilt won two out of three games against Tennessee in Knoxville this season.
Tennessee and North Carolina State have played four times all-time. Tennessee has defeated the Wolfpack four times.
The Vols and Arizona have never met on the diamond.
