How much is Georgia Tech planning to pay its recent 5-star commit

How Georgia Tech landed a rare five-star commitment. A multimillion dollar NIL deal helped the Yellow Jackets in this one

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets recently picked up a commitment from five-star offensive tackle recruit Josh Petty. In fact, Petty represents history for the Georgia Tech program. He could become the second five-star signee in school history (according to 247Sports).

“Tech’s been very easy. Tech’s been very cooperative and efficient with working on that. I needed that number to be fair. Tech went beyond and above and really have taken care of me,” said Petty in a recent interview with the AJC.

The 6-foot-5, 265-pound offensive tackle is the 14th best player in the country. Petty is the fourth-ranked recruit in the Peach State and the top offensive tackle in Georgia. The Georgia Tech commit is the No. 2 offensive tackle in the nation.

It is safe to say that Petty is a massive addition for Tech and head coach Brent Key. According to On3, a name, image and likeness deal worth $2.4 million over three years helped the Yellow Jackets land a commitment from the talented offensive tackle.

Petty’s commitment represents a potential massive change in momentum for the Georgia Tech program. Georgia Tech is projected to pick up a commitment from Georgia’s most recent decommitment.

Petty’s commitment is another example of how Tech is becoming more of a pain in the side for the Georgia Bulldogs. One of Georgia’s top advantages over other elite college football programs is their lack of in-state recruiting competition. There’s no other state with as many top recruits and so little in-state recruiting competition.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart still runs recruiting in the Peach State. The Bulldogs are expected to land commitments from five of the state’s top six recruits in the 2025 cycle.
