It’s no secret that Super Bowl commercials are expensive, and the 2024 Super Bowl is no exception. And while the price tag for these ads generally trends upward, the cost of a Super Bowl 58 ad is about the same as last year.
For the 2024 Super Bowl, a 30-second commercial costs $7 million, per CBS, which is broadcasting the San Francisco 49ers-Kansas City Chiefs matchup Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. While that’s around the same $6 to $7 million price as the 2023 Super Bowl, it’s a 55 percent increase since 2019.

To compare, the price of a 2022 Super Bowl 30-second spot was about $6.5 million, while the 2021 Super Bowl ran about $5.5 million for a 30-second ad.
However, the most expensive Super Bowl ad of all time was for the 2020 Super Bowl, and there were actually two. As GO Banking Rates and CBS noted, the two most expensive Super Bowl ads ever were 90-second spots bought by Amazon and Google for about $16.8 million each.
So what’s the deal? Why are Super Bowl commercials so expensive?
Simply, it’s the biggest American sporting event of the year. The ratings are high, and whether they’re football fans or not, people all over tune in to watch. Some people watch the Super Bowl specifically for the ads because they’re often better and more entertaining than a typical Sunday commercial.
