How much did the Colorado State OT escape change perceptions of Colorado?

How much did the shaky game vs Colorado State change anyone’s view of Colorado? What did we learn?

The Colorado team USC faces next week was able to deliver a big point-spread upset (20-point underdog) in Week 1 against TCU. Colorado then won by 22 points as a small favorite against Nebraska in Week 2. In Week 3, however, Colorado was a huge favorite (23 points) and barely won. Did the Buffaloes regress, or was this simply a team which was never as good as its first two games? Is it a little bit of both? What’s the real story with Colorado, and how did this Colorado State game change perceptions of the Buffs?

We asked our Pac-12 experts for their biggest takeaway from the Colorado-Colorado State game.

Don Smalley, Ducks Wire: When given the chance, Shedeur Sanders will come up with the big play at a key moment. Oregon won’t give him that chance.

Zachary Neel, Ducks Wire: My biggest takeaway was that Colorado is now in the class of teams that is going to get the very best from each team they play this year, thanks to all of the noise from Deion Sanders. There will be no off weeks for the Buffs, they will get everyone’s toughest shot.

Matt Wadleigh, Trojans and Buffaloes Wire: My biggest takeaway is the Buffs have a target on their backs. After a 1-11 season and then being picked to finish 11th in the Pac-12 by the media, there weren’t many expectations. A 3-0 start, top 25 ranking, and Deion Sanders and the publicity in Boulder makes everybody want to do their best against them.

Matt Zemek, Trojans Wire: TCU and Nebraska are worse than we ever thought. I’m skeptical that Colorado State is going to be an especially strong team this year, though I will allow for the possibility that I will be proved wrong. This was basically the Colorado team I expected to see before the season. TCU and Nebraska couldn’t expose that; Colorado State did.
