If the 2022 NFL Draft were to happen today, the Philadelphia Eagles would have three of the first eight selections in the first round. They would have the fifth-overall pick thanks to a trade last draft cycle with the Miami Dolphins. They would have the sixth-overall pick because of the Carson Wentz trade (although if the Indianapolis Colts decided at any point to sit Wentz down, that might convert to a second-round selection). Then the Eagles would have their own pick in the eighth spot.
Will quarterback be on the to-do list with that whopping amount of draft capital?
That is the question the organization needs to answer over the next few months. Second-year QB Jalen Hurts has flashed at times both with his arm and his legs, and he remains a fantasy standout due to his production in the running game, but is he truly the long-term answer at the position?
In each of the past two weeks, a win over the Carolina Panthers and a loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Hurts has struggled, particularly early, then made some plays late in the game to keep the contest close, or win outright. But if he is the long-term answer — or can be — what does he need to show over the next few months to make that case?
Let’s take a look.
