How have the Rams fared after a bye week under Sean McVay?

Since Sean McVay took over in 2017, the Rams are 3-1 following a bye week. Will they make it 4-1 with a win over the Packers?

After losing two straight games to the Titans and 49ers, the Rams’ bye week came at a perfect time. It gave them an extra week to reflect on those losses and correct what went wrong, knowing if they continued to play that way in the final seven weeks of the season, they’d be in deep trouble.

It also afforded Odell Beckham Jr. and Von Miller the chance to learn the playbook better and carve out bigger roles for themselves. No matter how you look at it, the Rams’ Week 11 bye will only be beneficial for them, as it often is for teams who are either banged up or struggling.

This will be Sean McVay’s fifth game as the Rams’ coach after a bye week and if past results are any indication of how Los Angeles will play, the losing streak should come to an end.

Since 2017, the Rams are 3-1 following a bye, with all three of their wins coming by at least seven points. In 2017, they blew out the Giants on the road, 51-17. The year after, they beat the Lions in Detroit, 30-16. Their only post-bye loss came in 2019 when the Steelers beat them in Pittsburgh, though it was a narrow 17-12 defeat. And last season, the Rams beat Seattle 23-16 at home.

In total, the Rams have outscored their opponents 116-65 in those four games and haven’t allowed more than 17 points a single time after a bye week under McVay.

On the other side, the Packers will be facing a refreshed Rams team. Since 2017, Green Bay is 5-2 against teams coming off a bye with its only losses coming to the Vikings in Week 8 last season and the Ravens late in the 2017 season.

Since Matt LaFleur took over in 2019, the Packers are 4-1 against teams coming off a bye, with three of those wins coming by at least 16 points. So his Packers teams have still found ways to beat teams that had an extra week of rest and preparation.
