How first-year head coach Ime Udoka put his imprint on the Boston Celtics

The same fans calling for his ouster early in the season now sing his praises.

Almost from the moment he arrived on the scene to take the reins as the new head coach of the Boston Celtics in the summer of 2021, one could see that for better or worse that while Ime Udoka had plenty in common with his predecessor Brad Stevens, he was also quite a different coach than the new President of Basketball Operations for the team.

Udoka quickly got to work laying the defensive foundations his team would later thrive on and did not blink when the early going was not the smooth leap to prominence many fans had been hoping to see after several seasons of disappointing ends in the playoffs.

The patient approach has paid off for the Celtics and Udoka with a second-half surge virtually incomparable to any other team in the history of the modern NBA, and NBC Sports Boston put together this short account of how it all came together.

Check out the clip embedded above to hear the story of how Udoka put his imprint on Boston and remade the team in his image.
