CBS Sports punished Florida more severely than either major poll in its latest college football rankings update. The Gators dropped 11 spots to No. 21 following an ugly loss to Kentucky.
The Wildcats jumped up 20 spots to No. 10 in the rankings, giving the SEC three teams in the top 10. Alabama and Georiga still sit at the top, but five Big Ten teams have worked their way into the top 10. Arkansas dropped seven spots to No. 12 after being shut out by Georgia, and Ole Miss is at No. 14 following a 42-21 loss to ‘Bama.
The Bulldogs look dominant against the run game, which could stop any chance of a Florida upset in a few weeks. With Florida falling out of the top 20 in these rankings with a loss to Kentucky, Georgia could kick them out altogether if the Gators don’t have convincing wins over LSU and Vanderbilt in the next two weeks.
Mercifully, Vanderbilt just struggled to beat team 129 out of a possible 130 on these rankings, so that win should be easy enough. LSU is a bit more of a threat to upset being ranked No. 46 and having home-field advantage over the Gators. The Tigers haven’t looked the best this year, dropping games to UCLA and Auburn, but it could be loud enough to in Death Valley to throw Florida off once again.
Speaking of Auburn, those Tigers sit just ahead of the Gators at No. 20.
