How did Marcus Smart become an ELITE point guard with the Boston Celtics?

While no surprise to longtime fans, his play this season has been a revelation for others.

The rise of Boston Celtics veteran point guard Marcus Smart as an elite floor general helming the hottest team in the NBA’s second half of the 2021-22 season is no surprise to his longtime faithful fans, but to the rest of the league has come as one of the bigger surprises of the team to date this campaign.

Those who followed his career back to before he was picked up by the Celtics with the sixth overall pick of the 2014 NBA draft know the Flower Mound native played the point quite effectively at Oklahoma State University at the NCAA level. But his recent play — logging 12.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game since returning from an extended absence to injury in late January — has been a revelation of sorts to many.

Check out the clip embedded below to hear what the hosts of the CLNS Media podcast “The Garden Report” have to say about how they believe Smart has become an elite NBA point guard.
