How Derrick Henry literally handed the Ravens an “L” in overtime

Titans running back Derrick Henry added insult to injury with his gave-winning overtime touchdown run.

As great as Ryan Tannehill has generally been over the last season and a half, there is absolutely no question that the Titans’ offense comes and goes on the success of running back Derrick Henry. That was never more true than it was in overtime of Tennessee’s game against the Ravens, which Henry won with a 29-yard touchdown run with 5:21 left in the fifth quarter.

Per NFL Research, Henry — who also had a five-yard touchdown run to beat the Texans in Week 5 — is the first player since at least 1991 with multiple game-winning runs in overtime in a single season. In this 30-24 win which put the Titans at 7-3, Henry put his season total at 1,079 yards, giving him the most rushing yards through Week 11 of any season since Ezekiel Elliott had 1,102 yards in 2016.

(We could also mention that in 2019, per Pro Football Focus, Henry had more rushing yards after contact — 1,605 — than any other back had total yards. Cleveland’s Nick Chubb had 1,494 yards to finish second to Henry’s 1,985 rushing yards, including the postseason).

To add insult to injury for the Ravens, Henry didn’t just wade through Baltimore’s entire defense on that winning run — he also handed them a literal “L” for good measure.

The Ravens are 6-4, they’ve lost three of their last four games, and now they have the dots mocking them. Not good.
