How a major NFL trade has impacted the NFL draft outlook for Jahan Dotson

Jahan Dotson’s NFL draft stock may have just gone up after a major NFL trade

As we enter the second week of NFL free agency, there have also been some exciting trades, including the Green Bay Packers shipping Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders and the Houston Texans trading quarterback Deshaun Watson to the Cleveland Browns. As a result of such high-profile trades, the mock drafts leading up to the 2022 NFL draft have seen some interesting changes that could impact at least one player out of Penn State.

The latest CBS Sports first-round mock draft sends wide receiver Jahan Dotson to the Packers with the 22nd overall pick, which initially belonged to the Las Vegas Raiders.

We have seen this one before, but this time it is under a different scenario. Last week, the Packers traded Davante Adams to the Raiders for the 22nd overall pick and a 2022 second-round pick.

As things stand right now, the number one receiver for Green Bay is currently Allen Lazard. The team is still in talks with Marquez Valdes-Scantling on a new deal. Dotson is a bit undersized, but his athleticism and elusiveness really make you overlook that case.

As mentioned before, Dotson would likely find the most success playing next to a veteran receiver. However, the Packers have Aaron Rodgers locked in for the next three years. Dotson would have the reigning MVP quarterback throwing him the ball. It seems very likely the Packers will address the wide receiver position in the first round this year. Nobody really knows what Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst has up his sleeve though. He has had success with plenty of his draft picks and Packers Executive VP/Director of Football Operations is very smart from a financial standpoint when it comes to contracts.

The big question is how aggressive will Green Bay be in addressing their receiver position. Several were surprised that they traded up in the third round last year to select Clemson wide receiver Amari Rodgers.

If you really think about it, Green Bay could take quite a few directions with their first pick. They could even just pick at 22 and trade down from 28 depending on what the board looks like.

It is possible Dotson is selected before 28. One team that comes to mind is the Buffalo Bills. they don’t have a ton of depth in their receiver room and outside of Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis, the rest are unproven.

Regardless, this CBS Sports mock draft sends Dotson to the Packers, a team that has become much more in need of a pass-catcher. Dotson would flourish as a number two option receiver. But he certainly has the talent and potential to be a number one.
