The No. 1 seed Houston Cougars will have to battle the No. 9 Auburn Tigers and the Tigers’ de facto home-court advantage on Saturday at Legacy Arena in Birmingham. In order to give themselves the best chance to advance to the Sweet 16, the Cougars will have all of their tools on hand.
Marcus Sasser, who injured his groin during last week’s American Athletic Conference tournament, re-aggravated the injury in Thursday’s first round win over Northern Kentucky. When he left the game, it caused many college basketball fans to wonder if he would be available for Saturday’s round of 32 contest with Auburn.
On Friday, he put those suspicions to bed.
“I’m playing 100 percent. It’s not a game-time decision.” Sasser said during Friday’s media availability. “You can reinjure it, you can re-aggravate it, but that’s not in my head.”
Sasser leads the Cougars in points by averaging 16.7 points per contest and connects on 43% of his shots. He and the Houston Cougars will face Auburn on Saturday evening at 6:10 p.m. CT. The game can be seen live on TBS.
