LaMelo Ball’s impactful first year in Charlotte isn’t limited to the court. One day after being named the Rookie of the Month in the Eastern Conference, Ball shared a video on his Instagram Story showing the moves he’s making off the court.
In the video, the Charlotte Salvation Army, which helps over 600 homeless women and children nightly, revealed that Ball had donated 500 blankets to help the homeless. While not announced as such, the blankets feature a PUMA logo on the bottom right, likely meaning they worked in partnership with Ball on the donation.
During his season in the NBL with Illawarra, Ball had a similar act of goodwill. With Australia suffering through wide-spread wildfires, Ball donated a month’s salary to the victims of the fires. He also released a statement on his decision then.
“It’s sad to see what is happening on the South Coast of Australia. People have lost their homes and everything they own. My parents taught me to help out wherever I can, so this is my way of helping out.”
While it may seem like a simple act or, for the more cynical, a move that was started by his team or PUMA, that Ball has surrounded himself with people of that mindset is both wise and telling of his character as well.
