Hornets’ P.J. Washington had first 20-point double-double performance

Since returning from a finger injury last month, Washington is averaging 12.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 10 games.

Charlotte Hornets rookie P.J. Washington recorded his fourth double-double of the season on Monday night in a 115-112 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Washington finished with 20 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks in 32 minutes of work. Washington went 6-of-15 from the field, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range.

The outing by Washington was his first double-double of the season with at least 20 points as it is only the fifth time the 12th overall pick has eclipsed 20 points with the Hornets.

In addition to his 3-point shot, Washington used his athleticism to get to the basket and was often in the area to help clean up missed shots by his teammates. Washington made all five of his free-throw attempts.

Since returning from a broken finger, Washington has played well for the Hornets. In 10 games played, Washington is averaging 12.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists. His 12.7 points are fifth-most among rookies during that span.

The Hornets return to action on Wednesday against the Denver Nuggets.
